Hemlock tree rings. Linville Gorge.
With SAWS clearing deadfall off Conley Cove, this is a rare chance to count tree rings in the wilderness. This hemlock died as so many did at the end of the twentieth century, having grown from a seedling in the time of the American Civil War. (Photo: Kevin)
